Brad Harman

I'm glad you're here!

Welcome to the modern version of my portfolio website, showcasing some web development coding skills as well as video, graphic design, and animation projects I have worked on. I have spent over a decade working in video production in both private companies and educational institutions, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Commercial Music Technology from California University of Pennsylvania. I am always trying new software and creating new projects to test my skills. I strongly suggest that you click on one of the buttons to view examples of my professional and personal work!

About

Hi, as you might have guessed, I'm Brad Harman (not the Australian baseball player, sorry). I grew up in south-eastern PA, went to CAL U in south-western PA, and now I've settled in to south-central PA. I've been making media for the last decade, ever since I took audio and video courses in high school. Web development is a skill that I learned to create this website, and hope to one day use in a more professional capacity. I also enjoy creating graphics, animations, and doing video streaming in my free time!

Video Production

I started my Digital Media career as a Production Assistant at a video oriented company for 2 years, then spent the past 4 years working as a Digital Media Specialist in higher education at Messiah University. I am comfortable with all aspects of video production, from shooting and lighting, to editing and post production. I am most familiar with editing in Adobe Premiere Pro, but started by using Final Cut Pro.

All videos below were produced during my time at Messiah and were edited by me, with recording by myself and my Production Assistant. All animations and graphics were created by me.

This is a video I created for the Messiah Graduate School to help explain their Academic Integrity standards.

This video was created to help incoming peer mentoring students at Messiah with finding their way around campus. This video used a variety of filming tools including dolly wheels, a jib arm, and a drone shot. The map travel animation was created and designed by myself, overlayed on the map provided on the Messiah Website.

This video was created in 2020 to show educators how the new hybrid classrooms would work to have in-person and remote learners. This video combines recorded video, graphics, animations, and screen captures to give a succinct overview of the new systems.

Animation & Design

In my current position I have spent much more time learning to create animations and motion graphics. My primary software for animating is Adobe After Effects, but I have dabbled in Adobe Character Animator as well. I have also learned to create vector based images in Illustrator for personal and professional use, and have learned how to animate them. All graphics and animations on this page were created by myself unless stated otherwise.

This video is a series of motion grahpics created to inform students of academic resources available during the 2020 lockdown while they were learning remotely. The icons used on the slides and the Messiah University Logo were created by Messiah University.

This video is a combination of motion graphics and animations with recorded video to help educators at Messiah understand how audio routing the computers of hybrid classrooms works. All company logos were created by their respective companies.

I also have experience with making alpha channel transition graphics, such as this transition created for a livestream.

In my personal life, I have created a number of logos and graphics for personal projects. Here are some vector based pieces I've created in Adobe Illustrator, including a logo for myself.

BradHarmar Logo
A design of a floppy disk that reads 'Saved it!'
A sticker of a Triceratops that says 'Don't be a Try-ceratops, be a Do-ceratops'

Some additional animations created from vector designs made with Adobe Illustrator & After Effects.

Coding

When I originally set up my website at this domain, I used a modified template. This version of the website was created in 2018 as I was beginning to learn web development. Shortly after relaunching this site, I found employment that did not use those skills, so I have not practiced them until updating this page again in 2022. I hope that one day I can use the HTML, CSS, & JavaScript skills I have in a professional capacity, while also learning new skills built on this foundation. I have also found this coding knwledge to be very beneficial in writing expressions when working in After Effects
